Privacy Commissioner Warns Establishments About Non-Compliance with Data Privacy Act (DPA)

  • The National Privacy Commission (NPC) Commissioner, Atty. John Henry D. Naga, emphasized the importance of compliance with the Data Privacy Act (DPA). He warned establishments that failure to comply with NPC orders could result in Administrative Fines.

  • According to NPC Circular 22-01 - Guidelines on Administrative Fines, the maximum fines for either single or multiple infractions is Php 5 Million, with Grave and Major Infractions having percentages of Annual Gross Income as its basis for the fines.

  • The NPC conducted the on-the-spot privacy sweep at Ayala Malls Manila Bay to verify if businesses within the mall were registered with the NPC and adhering to DPA regulations. The sweep examined physical and digital forms, processes, and privacy notices.


The objective of the Data Privacy compliance audits is to check if businesses implement measures to protect consumer's data privacy rights and maintain consumer trust by continuously complying with Data Privacy laws.
